Just rebuilt the top end of my buddy's MA70 after accidentally dropping a valve when replacing stem seals required the head to come off. First start up went well and the new exhaust sounds pretty gnarly! I believe it's an RSR catback for a turbo, but it bolts up to his NA as well. Now it's waiting on one brake line and it should be roadworthy. This phase of the build included the refreshed head, new timing belt/tensioner, new water pump/thermostat, stainless lines from Technafit (one of which had a fitting snap when we were installing them and they graciously are sending us a replacement for free.99), Energy Suspension urethane bushings on the front (haven't gotten to the back yet, the front was a total nightmare which I can expand upon if you want), Whiteline sway bars (only the front is on right now, may install rear this weekend), and we have heim joint rear toe links and traction rods coming as well.
This was the third Toyota M-series engine (inline sixes) that I've done a head-off refresh on since March. The 7M-GE from my 1990 Cressida, the 5M-GE on my 1986 Cressida Wagon, and now the 7M-GE on this 1986.5 Supra. I feel very accomplished.

I'm rather
Mvious
I've often thought about going down the 1mz route when the 3s-ge in my MR2 shits the bed.

I would recommend a 3VZ or 2GR over the 1MZ.

2GR is the dream but the cost of a written off donor car more than what my car is worth at the moment.
plus I have the S54 gearbox instead of the E153, so that's an added cost for the 2GR (though there's a company in QLD that'll rebuild a camry V6 box and reverse the shifter mechanism, which I like the idea for longer gear ratios)
Cost of a 1mz or 3vz is only going to be around $1500 for a wrecked Camry (ie as cheap as another 3S-GE). Cheapest I've seen a wrecked Aurion go for is $6k.
I have researched the costs
thoroughly,
and unless I suddenly get a higher paying job it'll be MZ or VZ.. but I lean more towards MZ for the lighter weight.
then more sensible side of me just asks why don't I buy a turbo model for the same difference :/
